A chair to fight fear
On 21st November we went to the Cisl headquarters, located in Via Ciconi in Udine, to take part in the presentation of a project on violence against women, with Mr Ferrari, our Arts teacher.
The activity organised by Cisl consisted in two main parts: the creation of an artwork developing the topic of violence against women from our perspective and a conference. In fact, we were not the only students who took part in this project, since some girls from IT “A. Zanon” participated with a song they wrote to provide students’ opinions and reflections. As far as we are concerned, we created a chair to give our contribution to the fight against violence against women.
Being an everyday object, the chair is an element which is past of every person’s life. One of its main features is to be colourful and colours represent the beauty of women’s inner world. However, these positive aspects are spoiled by blood that stand for violence, jealousy, envy and desire of possession. Probably the most important characteristic is the seat, which is decorated with some drawings every single student made in class. Those pictures provide our subjective interpretation of what violence against women is. The position of the drawings is not casual. In fact, it is eye-catching since anyone looks at the seat before sitting on it and it is a way to sensitise people and tell them to become aware of women’s fear before sitting down.
After the project presentation, we had the chance to have a debate on the topic of violence against women during which we could discuss the topic and give our opinions and impressions.
This experience was very educational and emotional, also because it comes in a moment in which violence on women is very close to us as the victims are usually very young women.
