Does the world need heroes?
Though in ancient times heroes used to fight monsters and beasts to save their people, nowadays we still use the word hero to describe a person with a particular amount of courage and good heart who makes decisions that will not benefit them, but the community they live with; in short, a hero is someone who sacrifices their own personal interests for what they perceive to be “the greater good”, even if it means putting their own lives in danger.
Today, anyone could be a hero or a role-model that inspires other people to improve their everyday choices and actions, whether that be a fire-fighter, an activist, a scientist, a soldier, a comic book character or even just a parent or another family member. Modern heroes do not just fight monsters and criminals, but they inspire hope in other people and encourage them to do better and to improve themselves and, especially in a time like this where many people have lost expectations for a better world, hope is what communities need to come together and reach a better future together.
Of course, around the world there are no real superheroes who can solve the world’s problems with their fantastic superpowers, but there are people who are brave enough to speak up against social injustice and discrimination, even if it costs them their life, and start movements that fight for change.
The world as we know it right now is in desperate need of heroes and role models that can inspire hope and change in the hearts of those who have been wronged by a world that only helps people with certain social requirements and leaves the weak and unacceptable social classes to fight and suffer on their own: we need heroes who can speak up for these people and make them feel as important as any human being should.
